EXLD 6301 (3-3-0) Self-Awareness and Development

Individual leadership development will be examined in this course. Topics include understanding a leadership development framework, examining one’s values and professional growth inhibitors, and strengths. Students will examine their leadership style preferences including personal values, attitudes, strengths, dynamic communications, intro-personal knowledge, and information processing preferences. Students will create a personal leadership mission statement and an individual development plan to further develop their executive leadership talent.

EXLD 6302 (3-3-0) Maximizing Team Strengths

Team effectiveness, including leveraging individual strengths, will be examined in this course. Topics include understanding and applying one’s interpersonal relationship preferences with others. Participants will also learn how to build effective teams by understanding and applying team member strengths and personality preferences. All will examine the dysfunctions of a team with an emphasis on developing trust and conflict engagement by understanding and applying different conflict preferences. Participants will also learn practical approaches to improve accountability, commitment, and results.

EXLD 6303 (3-3-0) Motivating Through Change

Influencing others to understand, agree, and commit to adaptive change will be examined in this course. Topics include understanding how to influence and motivate others based on how others think and feel (e.g., emotional intelligence and evaluative thinking).  Other topics include influencing techniques that can be used in diverse and global settings.  Finally, three different change models will be applied, analyzed, and synthesized.

EXLD 6304 (3-3-0) Effective Mentorships

It is important for leaders to not only improve team performance; they must also develop new leaders and create a sustainable legacy.  Improving the performance of others through mentoring and coaching will be examined in this course. Topics include comprehending and applying mentoring and coaching skills and tools in planned and opportunistic settings. Critical skills that promote effective mentoring and coaching include listening, questioning, reframing, and permission. Participants will also learn how to provide effective feedback and with a focus on high performers.

EXLD 6305 (3-3-0) Vision and Influence

Improving strategic performance through an effective visioning process will be examined in this course. Topics include comprehending and applying scenario planning tools in a business setting. Furthermore, principles of scenario-thinking and strategic thinking will be examined.  Students will learn how to analyze, evaluate, and synthesize complex, uncertain, and variable information into possible strategic futures.
